Sleep is something that everyone needs and getting into a good sleep routine will allow you to be in a much better mental health and well-being state. As well as being able to complete activities to a much better standard such as school.

Tip – Leave electronics alone before going to bed as screens have an affect on how fast you fall asleep. So what can I do? Read a book, mediate or stretch

What are some ways to get a good sleep routine?

Exercise frequently is said to help you to fall asleep faster and stay to sleep longer. Yet, it suggests to not exercise near the time when you’ll go to sleep as this can do the opposite.

Set a sleep schedule Go to sleep at the same time every night and wake up within the same hour each morning. This means that your body clock isn’t getting messed up.

Don’t drink caffeine before going to bed because it is a stimulant that makes it harder for you to fall asleep. As well as anything that has nicotine in it.

Write a to do list for your night time routine as it is found that writing your “to dos” will help you to fall asleep faster.

Good habits allow our brain to recognise when it’s time to go to bed. As well as doing the same activities each night means that your brain comes to see those activities as an indication to sleep. It decreases late night stress and anxiety as it allows your brain to concentrate on other things which will allow you to become more relaxed.

How is sleep related to school?

Getting enough sleep allows you to have effective thinking and overall better school performance. As well as allowing brain development to be improved. Apart from this, not getting enough sleep affects your memory, attention, and problem solving. Along with emotional and behavioral problems that can affect academic achievement.

Overall, nighttime routines help you to get to sleep easier which helps both your physical and mental health in many different ways. This includes improving your performance in school.
