Writing is something that I have been interested in since I went to college two years ago. As I have been busy doing my college course, I haven’t had a chance to properly sit down and write a story. Since going into lockdown I have wanted to focus on writing more. Now I have started the writing process, so here is some writing advice from me.

As I want to go into the film industry, I specifically do script writing which is a slightly different layout to novel writing. However, the basics are the same.

Research

From my experience of writing at the beginning of lockdown to now and advice I’ve been given from others, research is something that should be the first thing you do once you’ve thought of the main idea.

The way I do my research is by watching various different documentaries about the topic and write down the main points that are within the show. I also get in contact with people who I think would have good information and can help you get your story in a good direction.

Character Development

Before the researching process, I write down how many characters that I know I will need at the moment (Characters will be added throughout the writing process). This means I can focus my research a bit more.

After the research I make sure that the characters are detailed before writing the first draft of the story. This means, I will decide the name, the height, eye colour, hair colour, ethnic background etc of each character that I know I will have so far.
